Notes from Exile: The Community
Log/Verse: daily reflections from prison, written every morning at my bunk. Part poem, part log book.
Another excerpt from my prison journal, written while I was still incarcerated
THE COMMUNITY
Ours is a community
of lonesome
souls.
Collectively the bonds
are razor
thin,
and razor
ready.
Our only real bond,
the shakels we
share,
and the growing daily
resentment of the
staff that rule
us.
But sudden uprisings of
little things:
the jump in line,
a light turned on,
confirm the fragile
nature of our
peace,
and it’s pretentious
thread.

Chilling imagery with a poignant reminder of the volatile loneliness of prison life.
