At a writer’s workshop, we were asked the question: “Why do I write.” I wrote the following.
“I write, foremost to be read. I hope to provide something for the reader that is illuminating about what it is to be human, providing the reader with relatable reference points, through my essays, stories and poems, what has been previously unexplored by them, or what was unaware to them, and possibly help them, plodding through their own trials, struggles and highs and lows.
I may not provide answers—life will always be a great mystery. But hopefully, what I write will present the right questions that might contribute to our mutual pursuit of meaning and understanding that every human aspires to.”
I’d like to hear your responses to the question: “Why do you write?”
To paraphrase Joan Didian, I write so that I know what I think. And a bonus is to learn of the common thread…that my words resonate with others tells me that we are more alike than not. Such beauty in our shared humanity.
Though I haven’t walked in your shoes John, your words resonate with me every time.
